Extended releases for Spring OSS projects

Regular, scheduled releases give you access to patches, security fixes, and dependency updates so you can upgrade on your timeline, not ours. Spring support is provided by the same engineering team that wrote the open source frameworks you know and love, keeping backward compatibility and future-proofing top of mind, a benefit that only Tanzu can provide.

Extended releases for Apache Tomcat®

Apache Tomcat® support is provided by the top committers on the open source project with those same concerns covered. Extended support is provided for versions of Apache Tomcat® which the Apache Software Foundation considers no longer supported and provides fixes for known CVEs which are reported for those versions.

Extended support for OpenJDK™ with Bellsoft’s Liberica OpenJDK™

Java is supported by Bellsoft’s Liberica OpenJDK™ distribution, a leading OpenJDK™ distribution. VMware Tanzu OpenJDK end of support dates follow those set by BellSoft Liberica.

Enterprise Support policy

Tanzu Spring provides support for the following Open Source Software (OSS): Spring, OpenJDK™ and Apache Tomcat®.
  • OSS Support Lifecycle
    • Open Source Community Project Major Releases will be supported for up to 3 years from the date such release was made available for purchase and download by customers.

    • Open Source Community Project Minor Releases will be supported for a minimum of 12 months from the date such release was made available for purchase and download by customers.

    • Open Source Spring Community Project Minor Releases will be supported for a minimum of 24 months from the date such release was made available for download and support as part of product subscription purchase. For only the last minor version within a major version (Spring Boot 2.7, Spring Framework 5.3, etc) an additional enterprise support period of five years will be added onto the existing support period, aligned to the Spring Boot version it is related to.

      Note: The timing adds one month for all projects except for Spring Cloud to enable the portfolio to align on a date that includes Spring Cloud resulting in 13 months of OSS support for all but Spring Cloud projects.

  • Scope of Support services for OSS
    • Tanzu Spring provides both troubleshooting and bug-fix support for the OSS. Customers running OSS will receive committed bug-fixes in the offical open source project release package according to the release cycle of each project.
